Your missing out on some cool charts...
Dave Rhodes a.k.a. 19dave55
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I am 55 years old and a Principal of Private Christian School. When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap? I started playing golf about 25 years ago. At this time my handicap is a 10.5 and an inconsistent game. How often do you play? I try to play at least 2 - 4 times a week. Tell me about a great shot you've made. I was playing at a course in Kissimmee, FL called Celebration Golf Club. I was paired up with a couple of players from California and we were on the 9th hole. I sliced my drive onto the 1st fairway almost hitting a couple in their golf cart. I hit my second shot fat and it landed just outside of a waste area. Because of the growth of this area, I was unable to see the green or the flag, giving me a literal blind shot. Using my SkyCaddie, I made my shot to where I thought the green should be. The two other players were on the green and when I drove up to the green I saw a ball about one foot from the hole and the other two balls were on the edge of the green. One of the men told me that my ball was the one by the hole. He said that the ball flew over the flag landed about eight feet from the hole and spun back to where it was. It was one of the best shots I ever made and I didn't even get to see it. Two horrible shots and I was still able to make par. What is your best golf memory? I was playing in a four-man scramble during a Coaches Convention in Baton Rouge, LA. This scramble was with high school football coaches from all around the state of Louisiana. When the teams were chosen, the team that I was on was one man short. There was a local man that had come to the course and he asked if he could play on our team and we said sure. We had a great time playing and cutting up with each other. When we finished our round, our team was tied for first. We decided to play sudden death. After the first playoff hole we were still even. On the second hole our drive was in the middle of the fairway and everyone had hit their second shot except for the local player. He was getting ready to hit the ball, everyone was watching to see how well he would hit it when all of a sudden he stopped and turned around and said, "Since I have everyone's attention let me tell you about my best friend...His name is Jesus Christ..." Right there in the middle of a playoff to see who would win, this man was bold enough to share the Gospel. I admired him for that and I will never forget it. What is your "home" course? My home course is The National Golf Club of Louisiana, in Westlake, LA. What ball do you play? I play the Bridgestone B330 RX Clubs? Driver - Callaway FT-iQ 3 Wood - Mizuno F-50 Hybrid - Callaway FT Irons - Callaway X-22, 4 - PW Wedges - Titleist Vokey 52*; Ping M/B 54*; Mizuno MP-60 60* Putter - Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum Mid Favorite pro? Matt Kuchar Phil Mickelson Tom Watson Favorite course you've played? The River Course - Keystone, CO Koasati Pines - Kinder, LA Dream course you've yet to play? TPC Sawgrass Augusta National Best round ever- and what course? 77 at The National Golf Club of Louisiana Give me an example of a time your Skycaddie saved you a stroke. There have been numerous times when my SkyCaddie has saved me a stroke. Any time I can use the yardage to try to keep me out of trouble, most of all carrying hazards or bunkers and knowing what the distance is to the front or back of the green. Knowing these distances has saved me many strokes per round. What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year? My short game and bunker play. Tell me a story. A few years ago, me and three of my brother-in-laws went on a weekend golf trip to Cypress Bend Resort at the Toledo Bend Reservoir in Many, LA. It was the first time that any of us had ever played that course and we were scheduled to play it two days in a row. The first day we played the course tortured us. It is a type of course that you have to play ball position or you can get into trouble quickly. There are blind shots where you have to look and see if there is a flag up in the fairway so that you can make your drive. If you do not see the flag you cannot hit your drive. A lot of the holes you cannot use a driver or it may end up in the woods or the lake because you hit too far. There are at least three par five holes that you have to hit an iron off of the tee box. After finishing our first round we were reflecting back on our day of adventure over dinner. The more we talked about it, the conversation started turning to do we really want to put ourselves through another round of golf like we had today? Then the conversation turned more positive and we said that we know the course a little bit now and we should be able to score better than what we did. About that time one of our wives called and asked how our day was, and it started all over again. Finally one of my in-laws said, "Why don't we just hold a gun on each other and make us play again." We all got a chuckle over that. We played the next day and had a great time. We even realized how beautiful the course actually was, with the hills and the view of the lake on many of the holes. It turned out to be a great time of golf and good fellowship. But, for some reason we never have got together for another weekend outting. Hmmmmm... Thanks! Interested in being next weeks featured golfer? email us here [ comments ] Hi Dave Great to hear your golfing stories and congratulations on being golfer of the week. Keep rolling them in. I envy you getting to play 2-4 times a week! The weather here in Scotland would make that very tricky. Not to mention having to work all the time. best Paul 8/2/10
