Your missing out on some cool charts...
Nick Dopico a.k.a. NMDC
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I'm 35 and work as a Traffic Coordinator for a high end packaging company. When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap? First time I tried to play was 4 years ago when my wife got me clubs. I went 1 time with a friend and never played again until last year. I started going with some co-workers and now we play once a week. Sometimes twice a week depending on my work schedule. My handicap is currently 26.2. How often do you play? Mostly once a week. Sometimes twice. Tell me about a great shot you've made. This is an easy one. Merrick Road Park Golf Course first time I played it last year. Short par 3. Teed off and left the face of the club open a little so I pushed it to the right. Came up short to the right, behind a bunker facing an elevated green. At that time I didn't carry a 62 degree wedge so I used my SW and opened the face of the club. I used an outside-in swing and lobbed the ball to the green. Landed it and as I started to walk around to see how close I got to the hole the ball dropped in. I never saw it go in but I definitely saw it come out when I picked up from the hole... :) What is your best golf memory? Best golf memory is hitting my driver 294 yards on a 475 par 5 and then getting on the green with a 6 iron and having my first eagle putt. Nothing better than putting two solid swings on the ball and doing exactly what you want. What is your "home" course? Crab Meadow Golf Course in Northport, NY What ball do you play? Played Nike all of last year and very beginning of this year but I recently switched to Titleist. Clubs? PING Favorite pro? Old time would be Trevino. Young guy is Tiger. Don't care what he did. He's who I watched videos of last year because he's the best. Favorite course you've played? Desert Pines in Las Vegas. I also love my home course of Crab Meadow. Dream course you've yet to play? Bathpage Black Best round ever- and what course? Shot 99 at Crab Meadow. First time I broke 100. I used to shoot between 115s to 120s from the shorter tees and now I'm closer to 103-109 from the championship tees. Give me an example of a time your SkyCaddie saved you a stroke? This is an easy one. 8th hole at Crab Meadow. Long par 5 with a green protected by water on the front, 3/4 of the back and along the right side. Hooked my tee shot and put it out of bounds to the left. Had to drop and take a penalty so I had 220 yards to the center of the green. Now the green is small and I had already taken a penalty stroke. Normally I would go for it but with the penalty stroke fresh in my mind I used my SkyCaddie to tell me the distance to the front of the water. It read 160 so I took out my 7 iron and I hit it 153 yards. Left myself an easy sand wedge to the green. Usually I would go for it so I think it saved me a couple of strokes by having the information instead of using my gutt to convince myself to muscle one up there. What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year? Driving the ball. I can crush it pretty good. If I drive it short I hit it about 240 yards - long 290 yards. Usually when I'm short it's because I hook it or slice it. If it's goes anywhere near straight I usually crush it. Tell me a story. That's all I got. Thanks! Have to say I'm a bit confused. In your story about how SkyCaddie saved you a stroke, you mention that you hit a ball out of bounds, then you dropped and took a stroke penalty. It would seem the proper play after hitting out of bounds is to rehit from where the ball lied prior to hitting out of bounds, plus take a stroke penalty. This is the typical "stroke and distance" penalty for hitting out of bounds. 8/11/10
Scott, it saved me a stroke because I always put it in the water trying to go for the green. I penalized myself properly on the scorecard. I didn't however completely kill my score by going for it. the Sky caddie told me what my lay up shot was and that's where I went. After being angry from hitting out of bounds I usually go for it. The sky caddie saved me from doing that again. Thanks for the comment though. Maybe i should have explained it better. 11/3/10
