Your missing out on some cool charts...
Randy Bender a.k.a. randybender
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I am 48 years old and I work as a Receiving Manager at Golf Town (It's similar to a Golf Galaxy). When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap? I started playing in the year 2000 and my handicap is 18. How often do you play? The plan every year is to play more. However it ends up being less and less each year. Fifty or sixty times the first year and 72 holes so far this year. Tell me about a great shot you've made. About five years ago I hit a 230 yard 2-hybrid with my 2nd shot into a par 5 at Delta Golf Club and only had two feet left for eagle. The two feet remaining was downhill with some break to it. I had never made an eagle on a true par 5 before so I wanted to make sure I didn't baby it and let the break take control of the putt or leave it short. So I played it left edge and hit it firm. It caught that left edge spun out and rolled about twelve feet down the green. I two putted that for a par. What is your best golf memory? Going to watch The Canadian Open with my son Michael in 2005 when it was at home here in Vancouver. I can't wait until next year (2011) to take Michael and my youngest son Matthew when The Canadian Open returns to Vancouver. What is your "home" course? The Golf Academy at Westwood Plateau in Coquitlam, BC What ball do you play? At least 5 or 6 different ones each round. Clubs? I have a hard time keeping the line-up, as I like to refer to them, under 14. But for the most part I use a TaylorMade R9 Driver and R93 wood. Cobra Baffler hybrids, TaylorMade r7 CGB Max irons and lots of Titleist Vokey wedges. My putter so far this year is currently a Heavy putter. Favorite pro? It used to be Glen Hnatiuk when he was still playing. Now it is whoever I have picked in the weekly golf pool. Favorite course you've played? Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club. However, I am planning on playing three of the courses at PGA West (Stadium, Nicklaus and Norman) this summer, so that could change. Dream course you've yet to play? Augusta National! I'd be happy just getting in to walk around the course someday. Best round ever- and what course? I shot a 76 at Golden Eagle Golf Club (South Course - Blue Tees) a couple of years ago. My differential for the round that day was an 8.9. Give me an example of a time your SkyCaddie saved you a stroke? Skycaddie saves me strokes every time I play. When you find yourself on the wrong fairway as often as I do, where sprinkler heads won't help you...there's no substitute for a Skycaddie. I've owned every version of Skycaddie that's been released. As soon as I find someone to buy my SG5 I'll be upgrading to the SGX. What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year? Same aspect as the last ten years. My short game. Tell me a story. I started playing this game ten years ago thinking it looked pretty easy. I could not even hit the ball! A couple of friends that were with me couldn't stop laughing. I dusted myself off after that day, got serious about getting better...I'm mean really serious (borderline psychotic) and after one full year had my handicap down to 20. The two friends have long since given the game up because of how difficult it is. I guess with them I got the last laugh. However, I only have a year and a half left of my ten to get good enough for the Champions Tour! Thanks! Interested in being next weeks featured golfer? email us here [ comments ]
