Your missing out on some cool charts...
Roland Flaig a.k.a. rolandf
How old are you and what's your occupation?
39, I'm a machine operator for a major steel company. When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap? I started playing at 15 years of age, I think. My handicap is around 14. How often do you play? At least once a week, but I try to play more. Tell me about a great shot you've made. 195 yard par 3 hole at my "home" track about 16 years ago. Pulled my tee shot right (I'm a lefty), hit the tree to the right of the green which was a good thing because it was long. The tree knocked it down on onto the green to about 3 feet from the cup. Most unconventional birdie I've ever made. What is your best golf memory? Personally, the shot that I just explained. Otherwise, watching Tiger win his first Masters. There's no doubt in my mind that there had to be some "nerve" issues for a kid so young to be playing in a field of seasoned vets and to handle himself the way he did. What is your "home" course? Windsor Park GC in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It's a city run facility that has its good and bad points, but it is fun and fairly golfer friendly. What ball do you play? I play Callaway golf balls. Lately, the HXPro model. Clubs? Taylormade r7 Quad driver and Adams IdeaA3 Hybrid irons Favorite pro? Being Canadian, and a lefty, I am a Mike Weir fan. Although, I am still a fan of Tiger - Aside from what he has done off the course. He is a great golfer, and I enjoy watching him play. Favorite course you've played? The Arnold Palmer designed, King's Walk GC in Grand Forks, North Dakota, USA. It's a beautiful course and I don't mind driving the 2 hours to get there because I enjoy playing it. Dream course you've yet to play? TPC at Sawgrass... Island green... enough said. Best round ever- and what course? 76. Windsor Park GC Give me an example of a time your SkyCaddie saved you a stroke? Here is an example when my SkyCaddie saved me a stroke and it was when I shot the afforementioned 76 at Windsor Park GC. I usually shoot in the low to mid 80's at this course. This year alone, I've had three rounds of 79 and two rounds of 76 and I do believe the SG5 that I have helped out with that. What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year? Hitting the ball a little bit straighter off the tee and putting. There have been TOO many blown birdies this year due to leaving the putts short, and I mean TOO many. Tell me a story. Well, while playing the 3rd hole at Windsor GC (par 4, 295 yds), my tee shot carried about 240yds, "one hopped" and hit a Canada goose that was crossing the fairway. All I saw was feathers fly and all I could think was how many extra yards that darn bird took off the shot. Turned out that the ball ended up about 15 yards short of the green, which to me was still pretty good, all things considered. Chipped on and made "goose", oops, I mean birdie. The following day, under a very grey and threatening sky, I was back at Windsor to play with the group of 8 that I golf with every Saturday. While walking down the 5th fairway to play my second shot, I had noticed a "mama" goose was still sitting on her nest which I found odd since all the other geese in the area had hatched all their eggs already. I pointed this out to my fellow golfer and as he turned to look, he screamed "LOOK OUT!". As I turn around, all I could see in front of me was an outstretched neck, webbed feet and a wingspan of about 8 feet coming directly for me. I had to almost hit the deck. I guess it was the "papa" protecting his turf and he wasn't done there as he proceeded to loop around and have one more try at knocking me down. After about 10 minutes of laughing hysterically with my buddies, we finished the hole and continued on. For the rest of the round, or at least what we could finish before the lightning took over, I couldn't help but think to myself that the goose was acting as a vigilante and trying to get back at me for what had happened the previous day. After all, I was wearing the same black and white Bridgestone Golf cap and maybe the word was out in the geese community to keep an eye out for me. Who knows? Thanks! Try to convince them to go back to the full migration. In other words, summer in Canada, and winter somewhere south of New York. I know I'd appreciate it, and I'm sure many other New York Golfers would as well. I've been attacked on course as well, but not an Air attack, they usually come running at me while hissing when I get too close to the nest. 8/20/10
Hey JRB1, I will surely try to pass on the message for you and all golfers from New York. However, I am not fluent in "goose" so there may be a communication gap and something might get lost in translation. Thanks for reading and great golf to you. 8/21/10
