Your missing out on some cool charts...
Tim Will a.k.a. TimDaWG
Meet Tim Will, one of the nine SkyCaddie Members to win at the 2011 Golf Channel Am Tour National Championship. He is a competitive golfer, but it doesn't mean he won't help a fellow golfer out in need. Enjoy!
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I am 43 years old and I am an IT Manager (Microsoft and SAP Web Portals; Development and Architecture) at Dr Pepper Snapple Group.
When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
Started hacking around approximately 13 years ago. Started taking it seriously for the last six years; shot a 82, with a 18 handicap at that time.
How often do you play?
Once or twice a week.
Tell me about a great shot you've made at the National Championship.
#12 on the Stadium Course at PGA West. I smacked a 2 hybrid down the middle of the fairway, and then pushed my approach shot just a tad and missed the green right in a grass bunker. The green was sloping from back to front and kind of quick - OK really quick. I hit a flop shot with some bite (thanks square grooves) and it stopped 3 inches from the cup - it was a nice par!
What is your best golf memory from the National Championship?
What is your "home" course?
Westridge Golf Course in McKinney, Texas. It is the only course in the country with six par 5s, six par 4s and six par 3s. My lowest score on that course is 73.
What ball do you play?
Callaway i(z) - it's unbelievably in the wind.
Drivers: TaylorMade R11 TP
Fairway Woods: TaylorMade R11
Irons: Mizuno MP-52
Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design Spin Milled '10
Putters: TaylorMade Tour Issue Rossa Fontana FO-12
I have a few, but my top is Eldridge "Tiger" Woods. Despite his lack of focus during a certain part of his life, he is still the best of his generation to ever play the game. I am hoping to see him get back on track to challenge Jacks majors. Then comes Fred Couples, K.J. Choi, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson and a few of the “young guns”.
Favorite course you've played at the National Championship?
I loved the Stadium course; Ball placement was a must there because the bunkers there are crazy. Luckily, I didn’t find any of them and I shot a 78 without playing a practice round.
Dream course you've yet to play?
Augusta National; Invite only bud!
Best round ever at the National Championship - and what course?
I shot a 76 at the Norman Course at PGA West. I liked the fact there is no rough, fairway and lots of desert and bushes because it put a premium on hitting the fairway.
Give me an example of a time your SkyCaddie saved you a stroke at the National Championship?
IntelliGreen Pro is AWESOME! I was able to determine the slopes and tiers on every green by using that feature. It told me where it drops off (false fronts) and if I need to carry to a specific spot.
Tell me a story from the National Championship.
I played with a few guys from the Northeast where the grass is a typical bent variation so they were having an extremely difficult time with Bermuda. I kept watching them try to ease a shot out of the rough and get frustrated when it goes nowhere. All I could do was hold my tongue but I wanted to help them so bad. So after the round, one of them asked me why I swung so hard from the rough. I told them you gotta; bermuda is sticky. I gave them two tips 1) swing harder and the 2) hold the club a bit firmer. I saw them during the 3rd round and they said they played much better out of the rough. That will be $100 please (lol). I was glad I could help.
