New Features and International Handicapping
Nothing necessarily "looks" different on ClubSG today, but some major changes took place last night and are now live on ClubSG. These changes will touch those outside of the USA and Mexico a bit more than others, but there is something for everyone. Here's a quick rundown:
- You now have the ability to turn off handicapping ("My Settings -> Handicapping"). Maybe you keep an official handicap somewhere else and just want to use ClubSG for stat tracking. Maybe you keep an international handicap we do not offer. This could help.
- You now have the ability to enter handicaps manually. This feature is toggled under "Edit Settings -> Handicapping" and is for those who carry an official handicap who want to tell us what their number is instead of us calculating it automatically. Because of some differences between ClubSG and Official USGA Handicaps it makes sense that someone would want to give us their official number for stat tracking. This also makes sense as we introduce new handicapping systems (like CONGU) where entering a starting index is a much more accurate way to track stats and scores since those handicaps can reflect years of golf played versus just your last 20 scores.
- We've added RCGA Support for our Canadian members.
- CONGU - As promised, we've added CONGU support for those in the UK. You can access the new controls by going to "Edit Settings (from "Home") -> Handicapping". When you change from one system to another you are changing the way your scores are view by ClubSG. If you start flipping your account back and forth between handicapping systems the site will treat your scores different based on what system you had implemented at the time.
If you're going to be making the switch to CONGU as your main handicapping system, we'd suggest you go back and edit any 9 hole scores you may have. You should be able to just click "Edit -> Save" and it will work them out. We've also been capturing SSS ratings for a couple weeks- and you have the ability to add the correct SSS to previous scores if you'd like to edit those as well.
- ESC adjustments are no longer part of net scores (outside of handicapping). We had a couple questions about this and after thinking it over, it made sense. ESC is a function of handicapping but if you're playing someone with strokes, or on total net it doesn't make sense for them to get to adjust strokes for ESC. ESC is still implemented fully for handicapping purposes.
- ESC adjustments are no longer part of Fair Score. Same rationale as above.
- Differential is now rounded to nearest 10th prior to averaging. This is now inline with the USGA Handicapping procedure. It is unlikely this affects anybody's handicap since we're talking about a single factor in the handicap calculation being rounded to a tenth instead of hundredth. At most, you may have seen your handicap index change by 1 tenth.
As always, comments and feedback are appreciated. Thanks for the continued support and have a great weekend!

Wilzo says:Dear Skygolf, Can you elaboaret on the "RCGA support" aspect f the upgrade - Ive searched around the site pages and cant find any RCGA related items? 7/11/10
klangdon says:Stephen, if you click on "edit settings" from your ClubSG home page and then click on "handicapping" towards the top right, you can change your handicap system from USGA to RCGA. The biggest difference between the two is the math for ESC hole adjustments. 7/11/10
Wake Forest Dad says:I think it would be great if you would put in a real fly over view, this would take the sgx to the next level. 7/16/10
Benoit_H says:It's nice to adjust manually the handicap but... Unfortunately, it is impossible to adjust the "after" index on the score page, only the "before" handicap index.
In cases where the handicap changes from before/after, presently, the only solution is to enter it manually on the next round. Still, the score page for the round where the index changed does not show this transition. 9/25/10
