  20 Links Parade
Carnoustie, T7 DD7 7JE

One of the most famous links courses in Scotland, Carnoustie has hosted The Open Championship seven times, most recently in 2007 when Ireland's Pádraig Harrington won. Allan Robertson (first ten holes) and Old Tom Morris (remaining eight holes) were the original architects here, but the Championship course as we know it today is largely the result of a major redesign by James Braid in 1926.

Also part of Carnoustie is the Buddon Links and the Burnside Course, located at 3 Links Parade.

Visitors are allowed here, but must book and pay for reservations in advance -- which can be done on the course web site. Rates vary by season, but the summer walking rate on the Championship Course is £140.

I played Carnoustie on Saturday the day before they closed the course to prep for the Women's British Open. The course was in tournament condition and the grandstands, placards, and scoreboards were up. I even had a couple of contestants putting with me on the practice green.

I drove the ball poorly and Carnoustie is merciless if you are not in the fairway. It is really tough and the last 5 holes - supposedly the toughest finishing stretch in golf - lived up to the billing.

I will return again someday as I think the course 'owes' me after the beating I took. It is really a brute and the proper and safe path unknown the first time you play. The price was a little steep and the views are non-existent. The closest comparison I have is to Bethpage Black in difficulty.

Greens were magnificent.
Once again recognised and made to feel welcome by Alec the starter. Looking forward to the Tassie.
