Notable architect Pete Dye and his son Perry Dye designed this daily-fee course, which swirls and tumbles over 172 acres in Westchester County. Of special note is the par-5 13th, which features a monstrous, immovable boulder in the fairway, and the par-3 15th called "Headstone" that features a sheer rock wall backing the shallow, 9,000 square-foot green.

The peak-season rates (with cart) are $165 on Mondays through Thursdays, then $195 on Fridays, weekends, and holidays. Twilight, 9-hole, and off-season rates are also available, as are season-long individual and corporate packages.

Various stay-and-play packages are available.

For those of you who want to play a Dye course, this one from the tips is Dye-abolical. If you like slim sight lines and long carries, and of course greens that make you wimper, this is the place.

The course will challenge you from tee to green. I am a low handicapper, and have played a few Dye courses over the years, but this one can get under your skin in a good way. As some have already noted, its a bit pricey, but I believe its worth every penny.

The scenery is magnificent the holes are close to once another which is the only drawback I could find. Its quiet, serene and in great shape. I recommend it once in your life!

course was well maintained, but a number of fairways felt a bit too tight.

I treated myself to this premier course as I have just turned the big 3-0. Have read quite a bit about this course, some good and somenot so good. For those that are up in the air about spending the kind of money this course costs I'll try to be as objective as possible.

I made my tee time well in advance for a weekday a.m. slot and was charged $160. My girlfriend wanted to come with me and see why I'm so obsessed with this game and for a non-golfer the charge is an additional $50. I actually found this pretty reasonable as many of the other area courses either do not allow riders unless they pay a full greens fee and either have their own clubs or rent some from the pro shop.

The practice area was severely disappointing, looking much like any local muni... flags pegged into the ground with no greens to hit onto and very marshmallowy practuce balls. It was also mats only when I went and again, that was a bit of a negative. There is a nice little practice green and seperate bunker/chipping green which is a good addition.

The fairways were immacfulate and tightly mowed as you'd expect but the tee boxes themselves were a little furrier than I'd like. We got out at 7:00am and were behind a few maintenance crews throughout the course (who did do a fairly decent job of pausing to let me play through, but I'll get into that later)I'll attribute the furry tee boxes to just bad timing.

The bunkers, though not quite furrowed, were left in what I feel was an intentionally fluffy condition. Depending on your lie this would either help or hinder. The greens were the big disappointment of the entire day. (Doesn't ANYBODY fix pitch marks???) There were, however, no pine straw or foreign materials (i.e sunflower seeds) at all so at least they mow)But there were far too many poorly fixed pitch marks for me to believe this could be a "public course with private club atmosphere".

Difficulty wise, you can't be a hero anywhere on this course. You can't take holes off, and most off all there is no room to make an "angry swing" A couple times, I walked off the green wanting to really go after my successive tee shot and it did me no favors. It just doesn't pay to be aggressive and even when you throttle back, you better hit your spot. On two occasions (#s 12, 14 are dog leg lefts? I hit 4 wood or a hybrid, flared it out to the right, and went over the bunkers and hiils which frame the hole. I've never seen anything like it.

My girlfriend would like to point out that at the turn (8:45) there was no one answering the call box even though the starter said there'd be. This is an out and in course. Only 1 and 18 are near the clubhouse.

The views were spectatcular and is beatiful is you like those "woodsy" looks.

Oh right... The maintenance crews.. Sure they stopped running their mowers and maybe the only guys who play this course are +1s, but as a 17 handicap, I was a little put off that they failed to move far enough away from where I wanted to land my ball. There were nearly ON the green at 13.

Anyway, this course is great to play once, then play all the other courses you've always wanted to play, and then MAYBE play a 2nd time. Very good, not great and a little overpriced, which is the best part because other than the maintenance crew not a single other soul on the course.

In case you're all curious, 44-55 for a smooth 99 including two 4 putt 9s on 10 and 13 and a 7 on 12.

Best public course in NY. Blind shots in almost all tees (you are never sure where the ball is going to be landing), an abundace of bunkers, ondulated fairways and greens, you have to think every shot. The scenery is just beautiful. It is pricey but worth the visit.

Beautiful but tough. Must keep ball in play. Penalizes you for errant shots.
