Just to update everyone, the "fix" is to send the unit back to them and have a repaired model sent out to me for US$79.95 plus shipping. Will use this as a quick fix and start researching other devices as my fulltime replacement. Well over $1000 in two years for Skycaddie products and membership is enough given that I have no assurance that problems won't continue.

]I was losing the satellite signal part way through a round.
A service rep called and asked about the age of the battery in my sky Caddie.
also asked how often I charged the battery. I was charging it after every two rounds. He suggested that I charge it after every round. This has helped solve the problem and I have just ordered a new battery.

Performed the GPS reset as you described. Worked fine for about twenty minutes and then no Sat Signal again, what is going on with the GPS too many people are having this same issue. WE ALL PAID ALOT OF MONEY FOR THESE THINGS, LETTING THEM BECOME PAPER WEIGHTS IS NOT A GOOD OPTION.

My SG5 suddenly stopped acquiring sattelite about a week ago. Yesterday I tried the reset function, reloaded the software, updated the software and generally tried all the options I could find on the website and here...no luck. What are my options now?

I dropped my SG5 and it won't acquire satellites now. I have tried resetting the GPS and turning off and on multiple times.

I am having the same problem. Today my SG5 was working fine for the first couple of holes, then it would lose signal. I would reset the GPS and that did not work. I also tried to reaquire the satelites after doing this, the four satelites would appear but I only had one bar on the signal meter. After we would be finished with the hole and it would switch to the next hole I would lose the signal again. A buddy that I was playing with also owns a SG5 and his signal strength was full and it had the little plus sign above the meter. Perfect yardages for him, with my signal my yardages would fluctuate 5-10 yards. When I got home I tried to Sync the skycaddie and updated the new caddiesync software. I have version 3.97 on my SG5. Please help.

Thought I would provide a further update. Decided to go with the refurbished unit. They promised it would be here within a week. Five weeks later, still no replacement. Called and they forgot to send it. Eventually they sent me one (now 6 weeks or so after my first failed me) which I received this week. I made it through EXACTLY one hole before the new (refurbished) unit stopped acquiring satellites. I have tried GPS reset and everything else I have read to correct. Nothing. Dead. Truly unbelievable. I am going spend the morning researching other brands and move on.

I was having a problem getting a satellite signal on my SG5 sky caddie.
Was told to recharge the battery after each round because it was over three years old and that I may need a new battery. Started to charge battery after each round and that did help some but did not solve problem. Ordered new battery, about $60 in Canadian funds. Worked for about three rounds and problem back. We went to play two new courses this week and I really wanted the use of my Sky Caddie and I was not able to get a signal what so ever.
This seems to be a common problem. Is there a fix or do I have a $450.00 piece of useless plastic.

|

Hey there.
Just updated to version 3.98.8 on my SG5. Went out the other day after doing so and the unit would not pick up any satellites at all. And I was playing a course in the mountains and there was nothing between me and the sky. Yes it sat while I got ready to play(10-15 minutes) so ample time to find them. Frustrating as I had to play without it.
Did the update do something to it? As my friend who hadn't updated had his working just fine.
The unit and battery is about 2 years old and I charge after every round.
