Sunny hot day. Little to no wind. Perfect.
Definitely rusty after coming off of a stressful work stretch. I made the mistake of forgetting my contact lenses, since I was coming straight from work. I never play in my coke bottle glasses. Anyway, Burlingame Country Club is a beautiful classic course with very old and tall eucalyptus and pine trees. Fairways are generous enough and the holes have plenty of variety. It's a course I can play everyday. A great great layout. So fun!
Highlights / Lowlights:
Hole 1: First shot in a while. I popped it up way right into the bushes. After lots of trees and trouble, I barely saved a double.
Hole 6: Good drive that avoided OB left, water right, and a fairway bunker right in the landing zone. Tough driving hole. The green is no picnic either as it is really protected by some deep bunkers. I proceeded to hit my 5 iron hybrid to 15 feet. Drained the downhill left to right eagle putt. EEEEYAAAAAA! (Mike didn't do the eagle dance again. hmph.)
Hole 11: Laid up to a nice 96 yard distance to a back pin. I hit a perfect lob wedge that had no chance of going over that sucker pin. Made the bird on that postage stamp sized green. Super happy.
Hole 13: Nice wedge. Putt just barely missed for the bird.
Hole 14: Missed a short one for the three putt bogey.
Hole 16: Clipped a branch off the tee, but hit a super 8 iron from the rough to 4 feet. Made the bird!
Hole 17: Host told me to club up. I didn't really trust that, but I took a bit of his advice so instead of a choke down 9 iron, I went with a full 9. Cut to...I flew the pin to the back of the green. Bad three putt after missing a 4 footer.
Hole 18: Really pretty finishing hole up the hill. My tee shot clipped the tree. I hit a great 7 iron to the right that didn't draw into the green. Nice chip but just a hair too far from the hole. I made a nice stroke, but the par wouldn't go in. I really wanted that one to shoot even on the back. Oh well.
THANKS MIKE! SUPER AWESOME!
