Rory McIlroy- The next great player? Young Golfers Continue To Shine By kickntrue on 12/14/09
Young golfers like Ryo Ishikawa and Rory McIlroy are looking stronger and stronger and look like a real force to be reckoned with.
McIlroy is now ranked in the 9th in the Official World Rankings the youngest player even close to the top of the list. He recently jumped over Sergio Garcia who remains 10th on the list. This is ironic since Sergio used to be the next and greatest up and comer but has now shown himself to be a solid player, but probably not a superstar. Ryo Ishikawa could be even more interesting but it's going to take some more time for us to really learn about his game, because he has decided he's going to stay in Japan to play that Tour. Ishikawa is only 18 but claimed 4 victories on the Japanese Tour and has gained some worldwide fame for his play. There are others to keep an eye on too, like Anothony Kim and new PGA Tour member Rickie Fowler. I know golf is going through some turmoil right now, but I think it's fair to say the game is in good hands for the future. It will be interesting to see which of the young players (or someone we don't even know yet) turn into stars. My guess is that Rory and Rickie Fowler are numbers 1 and 2 in five to ten years, but your guess is as good as mine. Feel free to share in the comments.
