Brendan Steele Wins Valero Texas Open By mustang6560 on 4/18/11
PGA Tour rookie Brendan Steele captured his first title Sunday in San Antonio at the Valero Texas Open. Steele held off fellow rookie Kevin Chappell and veteran Charley Hoffman by one stroke to win.
It's the first time since 2002 that PGA Tour rookies have won back to back tournaments - fellow newbie Charl Schwartzel won The Masters last week. The leader by one heading into the final round, the 28-year-old Steele stayed steady throughout the day, and finished at 8-under. He gave a small fist pump, then thrust his arm downward and smiled broadly to celebrate his first TOUR victory after holing out on 18.You might remember Mr. Steele as the rookie who questioned Tiger Woods' effort in the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open. I'm glad to see he's making news of his own, instead of being a headline for "calling out" Tiger. Maybe the Steele could give Rory McIlroy a few pointers on how to close out the final round. On hole 18, he went from nearly chipping in from off the back of the green for birdie to having a 10 foot par putt to win. He sank it! Talk about nerves of Steele! Did anyone else notice how all of the headlines about Brendan winning feature some play on words using his last name Steele? Full Story photo source [ comments ] no comments posted yet.
