Luke Donald Is The New No. 1

It's Tuesday, so most of the golf headlines are old news now. But hey, a company holiday is a company holiday and we were out yesterday celebrating Memorial Day.
The storyline from last weekend in my opinion has to be that Luke Donald is the new number one in the Official World Golf Rankings. To make the storyline even better, Luke beat Lee Westwood - who was world number one at the time - in a playoff at the European Tour's version of The Players, the BMW PGA Championship. It's cool for me because I got to see him play down in New Orleans at the Zurich Classic and yell "Luuuke" (something I'm not so sure he liked).
"Sounds pretty good, doesn't it?" asked Donald, who joins Westwood and Nick Faldo as the only Englishmen to hold the No. 1 spot since rankings were introduced in 1986. "It's an amazing accomplishment. It's something I will be very proud of when I look back. I will savor this moment, it's very special. I think I will stay the same person, I hope I do."Across the pond, PGA Tour rookie Keegan Bradley won his first tournament in a playoff against Ryan Palmer at the HP Byron Nelson Championship. Keegan has golf in his DNA. His aunt is LPGA Tour great Pat Bradley, who won 31 times on tour, which included six major titles.
"She is a lot calmer on the golf course than she is watching me. I'm sure she was by the TV going crazy," Bradley said. "I talk to her regularly through text messages and phone calls about tournaments and what it's like to come down near the end. ... This is the closest thing we ever had in common in terms of playing."Keegan became the fourth rookie to win on the PGA Tour this season along with Jhonattan Vegas, Charl Schwartzel and Brendan Steele. And he had to do it under tough course conditions. After Thursday's round, it looked like the winning score would be in double digits and as low as -20. But after 72 holes, the low score was three-under. It's crazy how the same course can play so different during the same weekend.
