Sergio Garcia is the new Tiger Woods. The 31-year-old outlasted fellow countryman Miguel Angel Jimenez to win for the second week in a row at the Andalucia Masters.
“I’m out of words,” said Garcia. “It’s been two amazing weeks. Miguel fought so hard and had some good chances coming in, 17 for eagle and 18 for birdie.Last week, Sergio won the Castello Masters on his home course by an impressive 11 strokes. Winning back to back, dominating one and winning down the stretch in the other - it sounds very Tigerish, doesn't it? The two wins in Spain propelled Sergio into the top 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking, earned him a spot in the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai this week and put him a top the European Ryder Cup points race. Not a bad couple of weeks if you ask me. I'm happy to see Sergio return to form. The Spaniard is immensely talented but he's struggled as of late to find the passion to play golf. About a year ago, he even took a brief sabbatical from the game to play soccer with CF Borriol, a team that he partially owns. But, Sergio can't take all the credit for his recent wins. Part of his new found confidence is related to his new relationship with a nice Welsh woman. He has obviously had a flaw in his game for some time now with his putting but if he can improve that and hold it for four days then dont see why he couldnt get one.He has still got a good few years left in him and maybe wont reach the heights that we all thought he might but i feel he will have a purple patch at some point and it would be nice to see. 11/14/11
