BEN CURTIS WINS VALERO TEXAS OPEN

The winner's circle called and they want Ben Curtis back!

Curtis, the 2003 British Open champ who last won in 2006, finally ended a winless stretch of 2,045 days. In doing so, he locked up a PGA TOUR card for the next two years and climbed to 28th in the FedExCup standings, which all but assures him a spot in the FedExCup Playoffs later this year.

"That's a long time," said Curtis after capping his final-round 72 with a birdie on the final hole to win by two over Matt Every and John Huh. "The last couple of years I felt like I was so close to playing so many good tournaments. I'd end up missing the cut by one or I'd have a bad round here or there or I haven't putted well. Finally, every part of the game came together."

2,045 days pales in comparison to Robert Gamez's winless streak of 5,600+ days, but if you watched David Feherty's interview with Ben immediately following his victory, you could see just how long 2,045 really was. The 2003 British Open champion couldn't hold back the tears.

Ben did well to hold off Matt Every, who set the new course record in the first round, and John Huh down the stretch at TPC San Antonio. When the Ohio native bladed his approach shot over the green on the par-4 17th, I figured his chance to end his 2,045 day winless streak was over. But, the former British Open champion managed to get up and down from behind the green, which included draining a 23-foot par putt.

Now that his nearly six year winless streak is over, hopefully he can start a new streak. Ben will be back in action this week at the Zurich Classic, so maybe he can start a back-to-back win streak?
