Fritsch sizzles at Q-School By Torleif Sorenson on 12/17/14
On Tuesday, we told you about Canadian golfer Brad Fritsch, who decided to skip his brother's wedding in order to try to secure his Web.com Tour playing privileges for 2015.
You could say he succeeded:
The Edmonton native suffered a statistical disaster on the PGA Tour this year. Even though he had three top-15 finishes on the big tour, he wound up 151st in the FedEx Cup standings and did not play well enough in the Web.com Tour finals in order to secure his PGA Tour card for 2015. He briefly thought about going home during the second stage of qualifying outside Dallas, but thought better: "I think my mindset hasn't changed, which I think is the best thing that could've happened. I know I’m playing well — the best golf I've ever played was probably near the end of the PGA TOUR season — so I can't get down about dropping down a level. It's disappointing, but you can't let it define how you play going forward. And he did, acknowledging the fact that he missed his brother's wedding in Ottawa on Saturday in order to do it. But since his brother serves as his agent, both men knew what had to be done: "Unfortunately I had to miss, but this was my job for next year on the line, so I figured I had to come here. I talked to him (Saturday) morning beforehand; I just congratulated him and apologized for not being able to be there, but he knows what the deal is."And now the deal is that Fritsch can get into as many Web.com Tour events in 2015 as he wants. You might notice the golf shirt Fritsch was wearing in the photograph above; he is a devoted fan of the NHL's Ottawa Senators — and as of two years ago, a sponsored on-course promoter of the team. In fact, the Senators were the only downside of Fritsch's day on Tuesday; they suffered a come-from-ahead loss to the suddenly-red-hot Buffalo Sabres, 5-4 in an overtime shootout: "It's a bad deal, losing to the Sabres. It's a bad deal," he quipped. For their part, the Senators staff members and players were paying attention...
We all know that the PGA Tour gets the most press attention, but plenty of compelling stories exist on the Web.com and LPGA tours. Brad Fritsch is one of them. Have you seen an interesting golf story? Tell us about it! [ comments ] stellaeden says:
