Tiger withdraws in San Diego

Grabbing his back after each errant drive, Tiger Woods walked off Torrey Pines after 11 holes: http://t.co/et2bH9fCSh pic.twitter.com/PzofNkuJoB

When Tiger Woods finished his 11-over-par 82 last Friday at the Phoenix Open, he insisted that his back was "not an issue anymore." Either he was trying to deflect attention, or his back really was fine last week. But not anymore.

After finishing just 11 holes, Tiger Woods withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open within the last hour (after 2:00 p.m. PST) after obvious back pain.

Woods was not having his best round ever, although he did hole out from off the green. But late this afternoon, things started coming apart:

Tiger pushes tee shot way right. Grimaces. Stretches back. Drama on drama on drama.

Tiger walked gingerly off 2nd tee & after his chip in for par bent carefully to get his ball out of the hole. Touched back on 3 tee. #back

Tiger Woods wincing and making motions toward his lower back again. He's +2 thru 5 holes at Tootey Pines. pic.twitter.com/MgDDmh4eg9

Tiger is +2 thru 5 and looks to be in pain. Billy Horschel picked up his tee for him after his last drive. #FarmersInsuranceOpen

Tiger Woods WD's. In the last 501 days, Tiger has finished a final round in an official PGA Tour event twice.

Tiger's recent playing record is shocking:

Tiger Woods last 9 starts: MDF, WD, T25, MC, 69, WD, MC, MC, WD

In a very unfortunately way, Tiger's recent injuries and attempts to play through them remind of the end of the career of Hall of Fame hockey player Bobby Orr. We just hope that Tiger will eventually — and completely — recover. Golf needs Tiger Woods so very much right now.
