Tumultuous Texas Open Thursday, Part 1 By Torleif Sorenson on 3/27/15
In Thursday's opening round of the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio, Phil Mickelson experienced this bizarre incident at the 12th hole. It cost him a bogey, but still finished a wild and windy round with a 70 (-2), leaving him T-6. We have seen tour players suffer broken clubs after impacting trees and rocks, but this is the first time your humble correspondent has seen a broken club resulting from a bunker shot. Have you seen an interesting golf story? Tell us about it! [ comments ] Gee, Phil, didn't you know hitting off of those old carpets & concrete pads at "Maury's Range & Waffle Station" will beat up your shafts? 3/30/15
