Leslie Fisher a.k.a. lesliegolfca
How old are you and what's your occupation?
I am 43. I am a keynote and feature speak at technology conferences. Allows for a lot of travel and a lot of golf all over the world.
When did you start playing golf and what's your handicap?
I did not start playing till I was 26. I am currently a 2, but, I often play from the men's tees which increases the course and slope rating. I rarely tell people my handicap because they expect me to shoot 74 when all I have to usually do is keep it under 80 to come in at my handicap.
How often do you play?
All depends on my schedule. During peak travel season I might be lucky to get out once a week. That round sometimes can be anywhere in the world which is a perk. During my off season I try to get out 3-4 times a week.
Tell me about a great shot you've made.
Hmmmm. I think it's the shot after I have made a horrible shot where I thought I just took myself out of the hole. I like the types of shots that turn a bad hole into a great one.
What is your best golf memory?
I know it will sound cheesey, but memories of my parents SUV pulling up on any Friday I was in town. We used to golf together any Friday I was in town. My parents do not golf anymore and I really miss that.
What is your "home" course?
Goose Creek Golf Course in Mira Loma, CA.
What ball do you play?
Bridgestone Tour B330-RXS
Titleist 909D2 Driver
Titleist 909 Fairway Woods (15.5, 19 and 24 degrees)
Titliest AP1 irons
Titleist Vokey Spin Milled (54 and 60 degrees)
Scotty Cameron Newport CS
Annika Sorenstam. I follow her on Twitter and she can at times be quite the crack up.
Favorite course you've played?
US - Whistling Straits. Outside of the US - Cape Kidnappers Hawke's Bay New Zealand. Wine collecting (and of course drinking) is the other hobby I am passionate about and Hawke's Bay has both. Great spot to play and unwind.
Dream course you've yet to play?
Best round ever- and what course?
-4 All on the back 9 at Los Serranos Country Club (North Course) in Chino Hills, CA. The kicker? It's a par 74! Have yet to shoot below 70.
Give me an example of a time your SkyCaddie saved you a stroke?
Too many to mention! I have the SGX and it's great when the entire course has been mapped out. Simply moving the cursor to a specific landing area or an area on the green has been really beneficial.
What is one aspect of your golf game you would like to improve on in the next year?
Eek gad. I am also using the iPhone SkyCaddie App (SG Mobile) and if it has taught me anything it's that my sand game well, sucks.
I purchased and renovated a home and have already flown 100,000 domestic miles this year. Both kept me off the course more than I am used to. So this year I hope to get out on the course a lot more as well.
Tell me a story.
I was going to tell you the story of 3 guys who did not want to play golf with me when I walked onto the first tee at Pebble as a single. However, that is really not the norm. This story is more like it. Feel free to find me and ask about the Pebble story though.
I was golfing and went off as a 5th. I was carrying my bag and really enjoying the company of the people I was paired with. We had made it to the back 9 and I twisted my ankle in one of those hidden holes in the rough. After the initial sting wore off I realized I could make a swing but there was no way I could continue to walk on it. I held my hand out to shake the hands of the guys and tell them I was going to call the pro shop to pick me up. "You can swing though, yeah?" he said. I replied "Yep. But the walking is killing me. Especially with carrying my bag". He responded "Heck with that. We will make this work".
So, they shoved my bag on a cart between two other bags and the 4 guys took turns walking the remaining holes. I would just bounce from cart to cart depending on who was taking the turn walking. Trust me when I say I do not think some of these guys have walked that far in years. It was just a really classy act and one that remains with me today. There are a lot of really good people that golf and it is pretty cool that I get to share hits game with them.
