The legendary Donald Ross designed the first nine holes that opened here in 1920, while the second nine opened in 1947. The course has since undergone a complete renovation, which debuted in 2001. The course is owned by the City of New Bedford and operated by Johnson Golf Management.

A big golf adventure - at "The Whale," get ready for a New Bedford sleigh ride. It should be called "The Beast." I love the big holes - get that driver ready! The layout is odd and confusing at first, the maintenance lacking, but the golf is exhilarating.
