Golf has been played on this site since 1886, although the club believes that five-time Open champion James Braid may have done some redesign work on the course at some point.

The course is on common land, so public golfers are welcome, including women. Three clubs are based at the course: Chingford Ladies Golf Club, Royal Epping Forest Golf Club, and Chingford Golf Club, which is men-only.

I lay Chingford with friends on Saturdays generally on a twilight/moonlight. In summer 2014 we are still paying £10 per round. Unbelieveable value on a course that is mature and presents a great challenge. Bit more user friendly now that the red rule has been relaxed. Highly recommended.
