The course is a hybrid heathland/woodland layout; eight holes were in play in 1892, while the remaining ten holes were designed by Bill Cox between 1976 and 1984. During the 1930s, five-time Open champion James Braid did some modifications to the course.

Great overall, but greens were bumpy. Probably due to past weather conditions, and not having been rolled since hollow tined.

A beautiful tree lined course, well maintained, wider than it looks but you get no favours for going wide
