I've just played Kington and it has to be the loveliest course I've played yet. It is a links-style course with fairways that have bumps and hollows, and fast greens some of which seem to perch on the edge of a precipice making the approach a nervy one.
It is up and down so if you aren't fit hire a buggy or get the electric trolley out, but the elevation changes make you think more and it makes a great change to flat parkland courses.
All the way around the course I was accompanied by the sound of skylarks singing, and the views from every hole are worth the visit alone. The ferns and gorse makes accuracy crucial and in the summer the greens will be fast.
Dan, the pro was very helpful and Paul behind the bar gave the friendliest welcome you could ask for. I was looking for a club to join and I've just found it.
I caught it on a busy spring day - just after the winter snows had finally gone and the members had taken advantage of it and were out in force, but I still loved it.
This is a course that is worth visiting for the challenge of links type golf, and the sheer joy of playing somewhere with such wonderful views.

Stunning heathland course and outstanding scenary, great to visit but wouldn't want to play it regularly without a goat to negotiate it with!
