Five-time Open champion and prolific golf course architect James Braid designed this course, which debuted in 1897. In 2001, the greens were rebuilt to the USGA's tri-layer specification while keeping Braid's original contours.

Visitors are welcome at £45, although junior, all-day, and shoulder-season discounts are also available.

The greens were brilliant, excellent condition, very fast with subtle breaks. The only thing that lets the course down was some burnt fairways, but given the weather this was to be expected
