Naples National opened in 1992 with a design by the team of Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, who routed the course around stands of centuries-old pine and cypress trees, while preserving some 120 acres of natural green space. The layout is fairly traditional, with little trickery, no modern gimmicks, and relatively few bunkers. Sandy waste areas are easily visible, while the shot routing is always visible.
