This famous (and extremely exclusive) country club was founded by Representatives Oscar E. Bland and O.R. Lubring of Indiana in 1921. The Blue Course — the one that has hosted the U.S. Open and the PGA Tour's Washington-area stop — was originally designed by Devereaux Emmet and redesigned several times, most recently by Rees Jones. It currently ranks 59th on Golf Magazine's list of top 100 courses in the United States.

The Gold Course was also a Devereaux Emmet design, but was modified in 1977 by George Fazio and his nephew, Tom Fazio. Arthur Hills then oversaw a complete redesign in 2000.
