60 degrees, cloudy and very little breeze (under 5 mph). I was really taken by surprise by the green speeds - like a marble floor. I was forced to be incredibly defensive on any putt that was not directly up hill. The first couple holes my initial putts were further from the hole after they stopped rolling
Fairways were soggy and I played up a tee to avoid makig all my approach shots with hybrids and fairway woods. Good decision. At the turn I was pretty disgusted by my play. I wanted to make the round respectable and decided I would see how close I could get to even par on the back. Take one shot at a time. I continued to hit my driver well and hit some laser-like irons.
I missed birdie from inside 6 feet on #11 and felt like nothing was going to fall. Put my next shot on the par 3 inside of 5 feet and made it. Now I was rolling, only to 3 putt the very next hole. Back into the dumps. The next par 3 I put my shot over the top of the flag but had to lag a 10 footer downhill rather than go for birdie. Then I rolled in a couple 10-15 footers for birdies on #15 and #16 and I was feeling pretty good. Almost threw it all away on #17. Put my birdie putt 12 feet past the hole but made the comebacker. The home hole is long and played longer. I left my fairway wood approach on the front fringe, chipped across the green to 4 feet or so and canned the putt. One of my best "comebacks" from a poor front 9.
