Around 40 degrees when I teed off (11am) and close to 55 when I finished around 2pm. Mostly sunny and little breeze. A perfect day for December.
Fairways were spongy and did not allow much bounce and roll but the course is short. Greens were sort of shaggy and bumpy but for December and not having been cut, they rolled okay.
I drove the ball well most of the day. Had a couple rattle in the trees and those caused my double and a couple bogies. Iron play was acceptable and around and on the greens was decent, too.
I was sort of surprised when I got ready to hit my approach to the 1st green - no flag stick. I recalled the hole was in the back so that worked out. I found a branch that fit the hole and stuck it in for the next player(s). As it turned out, none of the holes had flag sticks. I guess they did not figure on opening this weekend and took them all in. So as I went around the course I found branches to mark the holes, good Samaritan that I am.
This also marks the 22nd consecutive month I have played golf in Michigan. It is rare that the season lasts into December and rarer still to play 12 consecutive months.
