Hazy sun. Humid. 78 degrees. Played with Mary Ann. Her first time since last year when we were here. So we only played nine. Spent lots of time focusing on her game and never got up tight about my own. No pressure whatsoever on my game and as a result, played pretty good. Drove the ball well. Much better than yesterday. Had better timing. Hit much better percentage of GIRs today, though did play from the whites. But it wasn't so much that I played from the whites, as it was that the wind was not bad at all, compared with the first two rounds here earlier this week.
Nice GIR on 1. Should have been GIR on two but it had just rained before we played and the ground was saturated. Caught my PW just a tiny bit fat and sprayed mud everywhere, with the ball coming up 10 yards short. That pissed me off. Birdie on par 3 3rd, 148 yard 7i to 7 feet past. Nice putt. GIR on 4, then an up and down par on 5.
6th was my worst hole of the day, though it was only bad because I lost concentration on a chip as Mare approached in my peripheral vision. We then had a little talk about staying still when people are hitting. I wasn't mad at her at all. I was mad at myself for going ahead and making the chip when I knew full well that I had lost concentration and was only thinking about her moving. It resulted in a double. Should have been a bogey. A lesson learned for both of us. She is new to the game, has a lot to learn, but she is open to it all.
Played 7, 8 and 9 very well with GIRs on 7 & 9 and up & down on 8. Unfortunately, 3-putted 7th. Then after great drive on 8th, my intended 68-yard pitchip checked up a yard short of the green. Landed it exactly where I thought I should have, but it just had more backspin than I thought it would.
We actually went on to play 10, 11 and 12 before dark, and I hit good drives on all. Wish I could have played 18, 'cause my game was showing signs of the rust wearing off. Have a tee time for Monday at Rosedale CC, which will be more of a real test.
