First cold round of the fall. Only in the 50s. Played with Ben and met up with John (who works in the pro shop) for the back nine. Played a little better than my bad Saturday round, but still had some issues. Driver was much better. Hit some long ones off the tee today, in spite of the cold temps. Hit a bullet on 15 about 270. Many fat approach shots. I think it had something to do with the soft wet conditions. Best shot of day was from fairway bunker on 17 from 120 yards out. Hit 9 iron over high bunker lip to 2 feet for bird. On 11, hit 9 iron from 127 out, directly at pin and hit it on first bounce, but ricocheted off too far to have a realistic chance at birdie. Still a nice approach though. Had 5 or 6 excellent drives as well. Putting needs some practice. Have not putted well for a while now. Time to put some effort into re-finding my stroke. However, OG greens being aerated tomorrow, so practice is pointless at this time. Also, chipping distances have been off a bit too. Need to put some serious practice time in there as well.
DougEly says:Softer compression ball, yes. Have not tried the women's balls though. I usually play a Titleist NXT Tour S or something similar. I also heat the balls before a round with either a heat lamp or I will wrap them in an electric heating pad, and store them in the insulated compartment in my bag to keep them warm for a while. Usually don't start that until temps in 40s. Stop playing when temps get down to the mid 30s usually. Then will try to plan a trip or two to FL.
