Nice day. A little cool when the wind was blowing. About 10-15 knots. What a difference a day makes. Sucked yesterday. Played with Rich Phipps and this guy Mike who played from the black tees. Didn't let him intimidate me. Though I did not have my good solid drive, I kept it mostly in play, but was pushing and fading much more than of late, and the distance was a bit short for the first few holes. Started to get distance again by the back nine. Putted pretty well, which saved a bunch of pars and bogeys. Played the ball as it was. Even had to hit my 9i approach on 3rd from a divot in the rough and still hit it nearly perfect. I bogied the first 3 holes, though did not play them poorly at all. I was worried it was going to be another full card of bogeys, but then on 4, after hitting my approach just right of green, but pin high, I chipped it close to save par. Then went par, birdie, par on 5, 6 and 7. Unfortunately, on 8, my first big no no of the round came out when I thinned my 8i approach badly, then fatted my 30 yd pitch. Chipped on in five to about 5 ft and made the bogey save. Was pissed, but kept my cool and went on to hit a good 24*H off the tee on 9, which hit the green but bounced off the left side down the hill a few yards. 60* pitch up was okay, but couldn't make the par saving putt. Good GIR par on 10. On 12, I had my second no no when I was hitting 7 iron approach. I shanked it badly! It was a shame to ruin such a good drive. Parred the next four holes, which included two on my nemesis holes, 14 and 15. Fatted a 3H from the fairway on 17 after a very good drive, leaving me in the mid fairway bunker. Got it out with a 7 iron, but couldn't reach the green. Chip was a bit long and two-putted for bogey. Then finished up on 18 with a 180 yard approach from the right rough to 12 away, pin high. Par. It was a very good round, particularly after such a bad one yesterday. Same ball all round and NO DOUBLES!
DougEly says:No, I think you are thinking of Matt. This Mike was much older. 50ish.
