Ben, Richie, Mike. Breezy/windy, again. Mid-60s. Partly cloudy.
Another poor round. Driver was off today. Only one or two quality drives. Hit mostly weak pushes. Pulled one solid into hazard on 3rd. Popped up on 18. Had few opportunities as a result of poor driving. However, iron game was pretty good. Hit my irons crisply again, all day. Lost 3 or 4 strokes on putting, easily, not because I putted poorly, but because the greens still are not rolling very true on short putts. On first, chipped to 5 feet from just off green. Putt to save par was right on line. Bounced and jumped left as if it hit something 6 inches from the hole. Would have gone dead center if the greens were true. Woulda, shoulda, coulda... Bad break.
On 2nd, good breeze right to left. 158 to pin. Hit 7 iron flush. Flew right at pin which was on front tier of green. Looked perfect in the air, however, wind must have shifted or something. Landed 15 yards past pin on back tier of green. Stopped on a dime, thankfully. GIR 3-putt. Good shot. Bad break.
Wind strong into face on 3. Tried to power drive into it. Hit flush, low liner, but pulled just into left lateral hazard. Found ball sitting at base of steep hill into hazard. Too difficult to get it, but at least I had a good idea where to drop. Double after three more good shots into the wind to get to the green.
Didn't make a par till the 6th.
On 9th, hit another 7 iron 165 yards to a 150 yard pin. Only this one I tugged a little and it went down the hill. Nice flop onto the green, but bogey just the same.
One of the best tee shots of the day was a 6i on 13 over bunker to low left pin. Landed a few feet from pin and checked up. Had 6 foot birdie putt. Hit it right on line. Turned at the last second. Pars are good.
Did not play poorly, other than driving. Even that was acceptable, just not up to snuff. Wind played havoc as well. Between poor greens, bad breaks, blah driving and the wind, I had another less-than-memorable round. I hate only playing weekends so far this year. Not enough time on the course to hone the game back into shape. Not even much in the way of practice yet this year. Been too cold or windy after work. Hopefully spring will really get here soon.
