Rain. Went out at 5:15. League just began on front an hour earlier (at least the few who showed up), so started on 7th. They were the only ones on the course. Rain was annoying, but stopped every now and then. Didn't matter. It seems I always play very well in the rain. Can't figure out why. I hate wet, soft, muddy conditions. But hit the ball well despite the conditions.
No warm up. Got out of car, hopped in cart and went. Barely even stretched. First swing on 7th (my first) was a little awkward, but not bad. Pushed it right a little. Still ended up with up and down par. After that drive, things got in sync. Drove the ball well the rest of the round.
3 good shots on 8th on in reg. 3 putt though. Only one of round. Actually putted pretty well. Had 3 lip-outs which, had they gone in, would have really been a good day on the greens.
Thinned a couple irons shots and 4Ws, but all still had decent distance and were straight. None really got me in trouble. On 13, thinned 6i off tee into front bunker, but put a 60* from bunker to 4' to save par. On 16, hit 8 iron to 10 feet and made the putt for bird. First of two on the day. The other was a 6i off tee on 2nd to 6 feet. Best shot of day.
Probably could have played the 5th and 6th holes a little better, but was rushing to get in before it was pitch black out. It was really dark on those two holes, and I was expecting them to send out the cavalry looking for me at any minute. It was cart-path-only. I was running to and from my ball by that point, spending no time deciding what to do with the shot. On 6th, my approach was only about 65 yards over the bunkers, but I didn't have the right club with me. Tried to shorten swing with 52* and ended up in bunker. Hated rushing on that hole.
A good round overall, though still had a few bad shots. But, just had more good ones. Played with no pressure. No expectations in the bad conditions. Swing was fluid.
