Overcast, with light rain late in the round. Temps felt about 60-63. Kind of raw by back nine. Played with a couple from Philly area, Mary and Harry.
This is a very nice course. 2nd time I played it, the first being two years ago. I really liked it this time. Expensive, but worth it. It was in great shape. Greens ran true. Fairways were lush, everything was green. Bunker sand was perfect. Couldn't ask for better conditions overall.
My work on the range last eve paid off. Was driving the ball straight or with a baby draw. Unfortunately, the new swing I am using is not 2nd nature yet. Too many swing thoughts got me twice with the driver today. Both times ended up topping it. Otherwise, all drives were quite respectable. Decided to use my old 910D2 because I was getting the best results with it in my range session last night. I think the shaft is the best one for me, at least between the one in the 913 right now and the VTS Silver in my 910. I think I will try putting the VTS in the 913 to see how that plays for the next round.
Played the 2nd longest set of tees because Harry was playing them. Wasn't planning to due to hernia recovery. I'm worried I may have hurt it swinging for the fences. By the back nine there was a definite discomfort in that area when swinging through the ball. A very acute "ouch" as I contacted the ball. Seemed like I tweaked something. In addition, I played through pain of pulled muscle in back of right shoulder that happened earlier this week while retooling my swing. Icing it now as I write. More worried about hernia than shoulder pull.
Had I played the next set of tees up I think I would have hit 4 or 5 more greens. Really had to work for GIRs today with some pretty long approaches, but played the best of the trip. Did make GIR on one long par 4 with a 195 yard 3H approach to 25 feet. Only hit 3 or 4 bad shots all day. Got up and down on most chip shots. Not as good on pitch shot up and downs or from the bunker. I think, generally speaking, the better course conditions I found here helped me play much better than I had been the past couple weeks since we've been here in FL. Wish I could play here again tomorrow, but at $80 for afternoon tee times, I'll have to wait till next year.
