Wow. That wasn't pretty. I was hoping to be better. Stunk it up pretty good, but could have been worse after such a long layoff.
Actually, first round since Oct. 27th injury, and then subsequent hernia surgery. Seemed a good excuse to designate this as a practice round.
Lots of swing rust. Distance was a bit weak with irons. Driver was okay. Kept it in play, though distance could have been a little longer. Chipping was about a B or B-, but did save me a few times. Chipped in for birdie on 14th, the highlight of my round. A couple other nice chipping up and downs too.
I was pressing. Played with a couple of late-20-somethings, big hitters who played the gold championship tees and blew their drives by me, at times by more than 50 yards. One of them drove the green on two different par 4s. He played Division I college golf a few years back. I think I tried too hard to play their power game and consequently pressed too much. Shanked a PW on 9th (after a good drive of about 250) from 108 yards and ended up in a bunker, well right and short of the green. Saved bogey, but it was ugly.
Surgery area a little sore by the back nine, but hung in there. Overall grade for the round: C+
