Wow. 50 degrees on Feb 6. Breezy. Played pretty well, considering the shape of the course. However, I have no idea what has happened to my driving. All last season, for the most part anyway, I hit it straight. Averaged over 60% fairways hit and over 90% playable drives. I sliced the driver all day today with the exception of the 8th hole where, for some reason I hit it perfectly straight, and long. Unfortunately, I don't know what I did so differently on that swing. It felt the same as the others. Only hit 3 fairways today and that one drive on 8 was the only fairway I hit with driver. The other two were 3Ws. On the plus side, 100% of the drives were playable. Got lucky on 14 after slicing into woods, heard a big knock on a tree, then watched my ball ricochet back into a playable location, albeit it short of the fairway. Still bogeyed the hole, but it could have been much worse. With the rough so dormant this time of year, hitting out of it was easy all day. As a result, was able to salvage a decent score. Be that as it may, I have to figure out what is going on with my normally dependable driver swing.
3-putted two par 3s today after GIRs on both. Ouch. In my defense, the greens were pretty hairy. They haven't been cut in months. Hit irons pretty well all day. Chipped well too. Just couldn't figure out the driver. But, hey, it's February in New England and I am playing golf. Florida next two weeks. I better hit it straight there.
