Cold and a bit breezy. Gotta stop playing the blue tees here when it's so damn cold and the ground so soft. Course seemed to play another 300-400 yards over the stated yardage. Had so much trouble reaching greens...or anything for that matter. 200 yards was a long drive today, which makes the par 5, 612 yard, 5th virtually impossible (for me) to reach in regulation. On first tee, hit what felt like a great drive right down the middle. Seemed like a 250 yard drive, however, in reality, if it was more than 210 yards I'd be surprised. Smacked a real good 4W from there and was still a full 60 degree wedge from the pin. Cold and wind really cuts you down at the knees.
As I have stated many times in the past about these greens, I really like putting on them. They roll so true. 8 one-putts today. Only one 3-putt, on 15, where I just flaked out on a long distance lag. For some reason, even knowing how slow things were rolling, I just Sallied the first putt from about 40 feet and left it at least 10 feet short. Almost made the 10 footer, but no. Double.
Got in trouble on 16th with a terrible drive into the wind. Worst of the last 10 or 15 rounds. Really cut across the ball which made it worse and ended up in the middle of the adjacent fairway, blocked out by trees. Tried to go over the trees with a hybrid and almost made it. Hit it as good as I can, but it caught the very top of an evergreen, just below where you'd put your Xmas star. 2 feet higher and it is the shot of the day. Instead, ended up with another double, which could have been a triple had I not been able to flop a 60* wedge over a greenside bunker to 2 feet for an up & down.
Tomorrow's another day/round.
