Keith, Ben & Richie. First round of year in CT. Conditions were marginal, at best. Very muddy. No roll. Greens were very furry. Not true at all. Lots of bouncy bouncy. We walked. No carts available due to wetness of course. Hilly course. No nice walk in the park. Temps were in the 50s, but by the back nine, the wind was howling. At times 20-25 knots. Back was a lot more difficult than the front for me, due to not only the wind, but I was pooped by the middle of the back nine. Had my heavy cart bag on the push cart which was loaded with all the gear I always have in my cart bag. About 50 lbs worth. Tough pushing that up some of those hills considering how soft the ground was. My body is shot right now. On the 16th tee I was so pooped I topped my drive right into the mud in front of the tee. Took a stroke and distance penalty and got through the next one pretty well. Couldn't wait to get the round over with before I fell over! One of the toughest rounds I ever walked.
Could not seem to make good contact with the 5W today. Had three or four not-so-pretty shots. Iron play was pretty good. Driver wasn't right, but mostly kept in in play. Other than the top on 16, drives were mostly playable. A couple went right and got me caught behind a tree, both times.
On par 3 8th, pin was in front. Measured about 125, but with wind in face, thought it was playing about 135. Hit 8 iron, over the green on the fly, into the wind. Probably hit it 145. Go figure. Made a nice chip to 5 feet and made the putt to save par. Saved par on the two previous holes too. Short game was good all day, with the exception of a 60 skull over the green on par 5 11th, after tree trouble on the drive, then again on the 2nd shot, then the 3rd shot as well, and approach shot too. Skulled the 60* on the 5th shot, which all resulted in an 8. Worst hole of day.
Best hole was birdie on 17 with PW off tee to 15 feet. Nice putt.
I'm pretty sore right now.
