Was only planning to practice when I went up to the club, but there was no one out playing the first few holes when I got there at 5, so I quickly decided to get a cart and go play 9 before dark. Glad I did. I seemed to get my drive going pretty straight again, mostly by getting a better turn through and not quitting on it. Hit 5 of 7 fairways, just missed another and clipped a tree limb along the 6th fairway which knocked an otherwise decent drive down and left me up against the tree trunk with no shot. Though I'm hitting it straight again, distance is still not there. Neither was my iron distance, even on good contact, except for maybe one 6 iron approach on 8, which was about 150 yards, but uphill. Got it pin high, but still about 30' from hole. I think my right shoulder issues have something to do with the lack of distance. There is some pain and discomfort when swinging, so I think, subconsciously, I am not giving it a real go. As a result, I have been going up a club for everything the last couple days.
After playing 9, there was still some light, so I went on and played 10 and 11 before running into a foursome at the back of the afternoon crowd. Only had another 10-15 minutes before sundown, so I turned around and went back to the 8th fairway, of which no one was playing, and practiced approach shots and a little chipping till dark. So I got some practice time in too, which was my original intention when I went up to the club today.
