Opening weekend at Oxford Greens. Cold and raw to start. Cold, raw and rainy by the middle of the front. Cold, raw, very rainy and saturated by 13th. Played with Ben and Keith. Richie played the front with us. You'd think we would have had enough of the rough conditions, but noooo, we decided to play an extra 7 holes and were drenched, through and through.
Started with good drive on first and hit nice 9 iron approach for GIR. Then 3-putted. Hit 5i tee shot fat and into the water on 2nd. Penalty drop. Nice pitch to 7' but two putted for bogey. Nice up and down pars on 3 and 4. Then landed in deep right side bunker off tee on 5th. Had to pitch out. Then landed a 4i on left side green, which rolled off and down hill. Decent 60* pitch up and on, but 2 putt for double. 2nd and last double of the day. On 6th, don't know what happened, but drive went way right, hit cart path and bounced into edge of woods. I somehow got a club on it and knocked it out of woods, but only about 10 yards forward of where I hit it from. Then hit a nice 9 iron onto the green and 2 putted for bogey. Bogied 7th. Par on 8 with GIR. Bogey on 9.
Started back with an okay drive on par 5 10th, a decent 19* hybrid 2nd, then a nice approach from 140 to 18 inches for bird. Shot of the day. Good up and down par on 14. Then GIR on 15, but 3-putted. Another GIR/par on 17th.
Only real bad shot of the day was drive on 6th. Then there were a couple poor shots after the round when we were playing the extra 7 holes and I was pretty cold, wet and tired. All in all, not a bad round, considering the unfriendly conditions. Cold really limited ball flight, on top of a wet course which offered virtually no roll. Where it landed, it stayed. At times I was hitting two extra clubs just to reach things. Seemed I only hit a couple short iron approaches all day.
