Finally, a decent day and a decent round. 65-70 degrees and partly cloudy. Only a 1 club wind or less. Played with a father/son twosome. The son had played high school golf a few years back and was pretty good. Dad, struggled. I had a fairly good round with the exception of a couple three-putts and one or two less than acceptable approach shots. Overall, pretty happy with my game. Playing this course for the second time, this time without 25 mph winds, gave me some confidence.
Hit some nice drives, respectable distances. Kept up with the 20-something ex-high school golfer for the most part. He played from the silvers too, but probably should have played from the golds. He out drove me most of the time, but many of my drives were within a few yards of his, so I felt a lot better than I had been feeling all the previous rounds here in Florida, where my distance seemed to be weak. Amazing how much having only light wind helped.
Only one poor shot all round after coming up about 35 yards short of green with 2nd shot on par 5 17th. Chunked a PW trying a less than half swing pitch. Never committed to the swing and consequently wasn't comfortable with the distance. Should have been an easy par, but ended up with bogey.
Hit a few more greens, but just couldn't hold them. They were very hard. Hold those greens and the score is maybe a few strokes lower.
Overall, had a good round. Enjoyed it.
