Wet and soft. Played preferred lies. Though technically our season starts April 1 for entering scores, the courses, what few are even open yet, are far from offering playable conditions. So I'm not ready to start entering official scores yet.
Planned to play 18, but after nine, rain started. Was playing alone, carrying my bag through the mud, up and down some pretty large hills on this course, huffing and puffing all the way. Man, winter killed my stamina. In any case, between that and the rain, decided to stop at nine. Really wanted to continue, as I found a couple swing thoughts that were really working, but just didn't want to be stuck way out away from the clubhouse when the rain came down heavy, as was indicated on my phone (radar). Right rotator cuff was feeling like I shouldn't push it either. I am worried about it and at this early stage in the season, there is no point pushing it. I'll baby it for now with hopes I can keep the inflammation under control before getting into a heavier golf schedule.
Was able to get the draw working off the tee and with 4W on a bunch of shots using a swing thought that I'm sure I will forget by my next round, but it was good to see and feel it today. Unfortunately, I didn't think of it until the 5th or 6th hole. On the fifth, I turned over a 4W with my approach shot, but since I wasn't expecting to do so, it went way left. I hit it so sweet and realized what I did to get me the draw spin. But it hit a steep hill left of the green and bounced hard left as if it hit a rock or something, down the hill 50 yards or more away. I hit a decent 56* up, but over the green, to a position that left me a near impossible downhill chip. Ended with double, the second one in five holes. But after figuring out the draw, went 1 over the next four holes.
On 9th, a steep, uphill hole I think I have only reached once or twice in regulation, I hit a hybrid approach to the back of the green. Normally I can't make it up the steep hill with my approach. It's a whole different story when I have the draw is working.
Now I'm kinda pissed I didn't play the back nine. The rain never really came in hard. And I really should have worked more on grooving the draw swing. I had the course virtually to myself. Could have practiced all I wanted.
