First one off in the morning. 60's and 70's. Almost no wind. Very nice.
Fairways firm and good roll out. Greens very firm and unless one hit with a lot of spin or a high wedge, the ball would release. Green speeds were moderate to a bit slow.
I started out thinking this might be my day. An easy par on the long par 5 and then after chunking my 2nd shot on #11, I hit the wedge to 2 feet and saved par. I was feeling good and then chunked by drive on the following par 3 into the hazard - double. At that point the course turns into the early morning sun and I essentially played the next two holes blind. Managed to double #13 when I had to peek at my approach and hit it long and left. But #14 took the wind out of my sails. Hit a tee shot that I was pretty sure was in play but the glare and weeds prevented my seeing the result. So I hit a provisional which looked to be safe to the right. Could not find either so back to the tee where I hit shot #5 to 2 feet and made the putt for a "6".
I was thinking about calling it quits after the first 9 but decided to soldier on and record whatever score I made, warts and all. Played a bit better from that point on.
