Cold, but at times, sun was out. Low to mid 40s.
Played some holes with my old buddy Ray, the club pro here, who was once the asst pro at Oxford Greens a few years back. The rest of the time I played solo. He joined me for a bunch of holes on the front, and then a bunch more on the back. He had to keep running back to the pro shop for various reasons. Probably played a total of nine with him. I played best when he was with me. Hmmmm?
Course conditions were quite rough. Not much in the way of decent lies. Greens not too bad. Rolled pretty true, though quite slow. Played a couple balls at times, trying different shots. Tested out new Titleist 915F 3W after first hitting real shot with my old Ping G25 fairway wood. Unfortunately, did not hit the 915 very well. Looks like the Ping's gonna stay in my bag for a while longer. I'll need to play around more with the 915F before it has a chance to go in the bag.
Distances were really short today in the cold. Probably should not have played the blues, but I usually play the blues here due to the 6200 yd length, so didn't even consider the whites. That is, didn't consider them until about the 612 yard par 5 5th, which today took me a drive, 2 fairway wood shots and a 9 iron to reach in 4. It seemed like it was playing 712 yards! Not that I will get another chance to play here this year, but if I do and it's in the winter, whites will be the tee of choice. I need to remember, I'm 60 now. I'm allowed.
Hit some good iron shots, but only a few nice drives. None bad, just some not very satisfying. Had lots of trouble making GIRs today. I was slightly off my game, but no major blowups kept me in it. I'll blame the poor conditions and that I haven't played in nearly a week.
Right shoulder sore by halfway.
