45-50 degrees. Mostly sunny. Started on back. Still small bits of snow around, but the greens were clear. Most snow was in bunkers.
First approach of the round, on 10th, hit to 7 feet. Good start, but missed the birdie putt. Greens were a little furry and hard to judge pace. Never went to range or practice green before the round.
Found some trouble on 12th, but that was the worst of the round. Double. Then on 13, came back with a bird after hitting PW approach to 4 feet.
Went on a run of pars after that until bogeying the 18th. Went a tiny bit right on approach and had to chip. Slow green grabbed chip and stopped it far shorter than anticipated. Par saving putt barely missed. Maybe by an inch.
Went on to play the front okay, but felt like I had my best approach shots on the back.
Played the snow filled bunkers as they were, though only ended up in one. Ended up saving par from that one bunker on 6th, hitting it to 3 feet. Had to drop inside the bunker as the original lie was in snow. Wasn't happy about the 8 iron off the tee that put me in the bunker in the first place.
Had an easy PW approach on 18, but after waiting for a foursome for what seemed like about 15 minutes while they all read their putts from every angle on winter greens, out of season, I was so ticked and anxious to play that I skulled the shot into the bank in front of the green. I chipped about 10' long and above the hole, but made the downhill come-backer to save par.
It was good to be out there for the first 18 since mid January. Off for a week to Florida tomorrow for what I hope will include 4-5 rounds.
CeeBee says:Not a bad showing before you trip. I rode by there Saturday on my way to Frederick. Didn't see much life. Thought they were still closed.
