Kinda cold. Overcast. Low 40s. Wasn't planning to play, but just went up to course to see why there were no tee times available for Monday or Tuesday. Turns out they are aerating those days, so figured, since no one was out there I would see how the kink in my neck would handle a few holes, with hopes of playing tomorrow. So I switched everything over from cart bag to stand bag and went to change shoes, but realized my best walking shoes are still packed from the FL trip. Forgot to get them out of the club travel bag. So, with about 8 pair of perfectly good walking golf shoes at home, I put on the only pair I had in the car. Only worn twice and not the most comfortable, cause they haven't been broken in yet. Feet were killing me by the 3rd hole I played.
Decided to start on the back since it is the easier walk. Started with a good drive and 8i approach to 25 feet and walked off with par. Felt comfortable over the ball, not like in FL. On next hole, another decent drive, a little left of fairway. Hit 9i well and thought it was all over the pin. But I guess in the cold, plus the fact that I was guessing at the distance, it came up a couple yards short of the green, but right on line with the front pin. (Didn't take my rangefinder so guessed my way around.) Chipped to 2 feet to get up and down for par.
After a decent bogey on the next hole, the toughest on the back, I hit a great drive on the par 5 13th. I paced it off from the tee at about 225, but it was somewhat uphill, only 42 degrees outside and my shoulder/neck is limiting my turn. I know it would have been quite a bit longer in better conditions. A good 4W, then 8i approach to about 10 feet. Made the uphill birdie putt.
Parred 14. Pulled my 6 iron off the tee a touch on 15 and wasn't able to get up and down. Close, but no cigar.
On 16 pull-drew my drive quite a bit left, but had a clear shot to the green. Without the rangefinder, I thought it looked like a 9 iron distance and I hit a good one, but again, it came up a few yards short of the green. Chipped to 1' to save par.
Moved back a tee box on par 3 17th because the whites were playing too damn short. Only about 118. So I went back to the next box which was playing about 160. With the cold, took my 170 club, expecting about 160, but hit it about 175, unfortunately, into the steep, left side bunker. Got the bunker shot out, but didn't quite reach the green. Chip was short, two-putt double.
Another awesome drive on 18th set me up nicely for an uphill 4W and short iron on to about 12 feet. Missed the birdie putt with perfect speed, 6 inches right.
Feet were screaming by the end. Shoulder and neck a little uncomfortable, but no locking up like last week. Hoping for chiropractor help on Monday. Lots of ice right now.
