A touch warmer than yesterday, but a little breezier. High 40s to start. Probably got 50 or so when the sun came out on 2nd nine. Played combo tees. Whites and blues, depending on how short the whites were set.
Started on the back. Pretty happy with my play for the most part. No terrible shots. Had real good rhythm with all clubs. Great contact on all but a few shots.
Started with an up & down sandy on 10th. It was my first hole. Wasn't sure of how much extra club to play on my approach due to the cold and wind. Went 8i. Should have gone with 9i. Ended up in back bunker after carrying almost to pin. Would have been fine from fairway, but was hitting out of rough and could not get much backspin to stop it. Got bunker shot with 60* close enough to get down in 1 for par. On the next hole, same distance on approach, this time pulled 9i, and of course, came up short. Go figure.
Bunker play was good today. Both greenside and fairway bunkers. The two greenside bunker situations ended with up & down sandies. 2nd one was on 8th. Steep bunker, but put it close. 2 feet. Both bunkers shots were hit as I have been practicing with new distance "key." Worked well today.
Was in fairway bunkers on 4 and 5. In both cases, used and extra club and great tempo to make great gains. On 5th reached uphill green from bunker about 130 out with 7i. Rolled through. Made pretty good chip but missed a 6 foot uphill putt. On par 5 5th caught left bunker off tee. Very downhill lie in bunker. Expected a slice and played it. Was able to keep ball just off fairway in right rough and get on from there with a 9i. Made par.
Today, I felt my play was better than my score. I'm happy. Icing shoulder now.
Course closed next few days for all-over aeration. Headed to CT mid week. Oxford Greens maybe?
