Low 60s to start and cloudy. Finished in bright sunshine and 74*. Good round. Got lucky with a few not so great shots and putted very well. Driver was pretty good again. Hit an honest 253-yard drive on 9th, which resulted in a birdie after hitting approach with 60* wedge to 1 foot. Made many good up and downs (which means not enough GIRs), a couple of which were sandys.
As good as the bird on par 5 9th was, the one on par 5 18th was even better. After good drive and good 4W 2nd shot, had 80 yards to an uphill pin. No big deal, EXCEPT there was a large work crew, 8-10 guys and 3 or 4 large pieces of earth moving equipment between my ball and the pin. They were rebuilding the huge super bunker in front of the green. When I got to my ball, they all stopped and moved aside, except for the guys who were operating the earth moving equipment. They stayed put inside their cockpits with the machinery right in front of me. The pressure was on as they all watched intently as I got ready to make my high pitch. I was so worried I would blade it directly into a backhoe or something, with an audience just waiting the bust out laughing if I did. Stood over the ball and told myself, "you make this shot all the time. Just do what you always do." I did. Hit it perfectly and landed it within 6 feet of the pin. As they all continued to watch, I sunk the putt. Son of a bitch, not one bit of applause. Tough crowd.
Shot even par on the back thanks to many up and downs when my game started to leave me during the middle of the back. Got it back, thankfully and ended with that extremely satisfying birdie.
Good day overall. Icing shoulder now.
CeeBee says:Nothing worse than screwing up in front of the grounds crew. Good job.
