Nice day, a little breezy at times, 75*. Played with CeeBee (Chris). Score sounds bad, but wasn't as terrible as it suggests. Played the same ball the entire round, so it wasn't THAT bad. Had to fish it out once on 10 after approach was a touch fat and didn't quite make the green, then rolled down the bank and just into the pond. We were playing through a foursome waiting on the green at that time, which did not help my comfort level any. Rushed it.
Round started off on the wrong foot with a weak drive that left me well out. Hit a good approach into the wind which came up short. Ended with bogey. Same on second. Decent drive, but yanked my 8 iron approach left of the green. Another bogey. Bogey on 3, but at least I went into the hole expecting it. On 4, another decent drive, but again, yanked 7 iron left of green. Still no GIRs and no up & downs. Not playing poorly, just not playing sharp either.
Got in trouble off the tee on par 5 5th with a terrible drive (overswinging) well right into trouble. Had a bunch of trees in front of me for 2nd shot. Tried to keep it low, but it got up into trees and fell right, down toward the water on the 6th hole. Didn't go in, but didn't leave me much of a lie either. Actually hit a good 5 iron, but it wasn't enough to make the green. Ended with 5th bogey in a row. The bogey train was now at full speed.
Yanked another iron approach shot left of the green on 7th. Another bogey on 8 as a result of a terrible chip. On nine I actually hit a green and walked off with a par. I thought maybe I got off the train. Not so fast Mr. E.
Played about the same on the back, but scored even worse. Just couldn't find the greens all day. Hit irons fairly crisply on most shots and kept driver in play all day. Couple bad chips (a couple real good ones too), a couple bad lies, a couple 3-putts, a couple weak drives and some breeze in the face all added up to not a great score.
Either way, it was good to play with Chris again.
