Played the blues again. Not scoring as well, but sharpening my 5i and 6i skills as a result. Hitting both a lot more often and gaining confidence with both.
Got up and down and scrambled well a bunch today, but didn't hit as many greens as normal. Spent lots of time in the sand. Made a couple sand saves. Lowest putting total in a long time. Not that I was dropping them left and right, but since I missed so many greens, my chipping and pitching got me close enough to give me good first putt results. 28 putts would really mean something if I hit 50%+ of GIRs.
Started on 2nd hole. Decent drive and 5i approach from 170 out to about 15 feet. Just missed the birdie putt.
On par 5 5th, with front pin, uphill approach looked perfect in the air. Hit just a few feet in front of green and bounced hard right as if it hit something, into the very deep tough bunker. Made a nice shot out to 4 feet and saved par. Should have been on in reg in the first place.
Great 5i off the tee on 6 to about 8 feet. Made the putt dead center for bird.
A bad second shot on 9th put me in fairway bunker, up against the lip. Got out and in position to hit my 4th shot close from about 120-125 out. Perfect uphill distance for my 9i. Hit it great, but it just kept going, landing over the green and up the hill behind the green leaving me short-sided with a downhill chip. No way to stop it. Rolled to the front. Two putt double.
Shot of the day was 6i from right side fairway bunker on 10th to about 5 feet, resulting in bird.
2nd best shot of the day was 170 yard uphill approach on 18 from center section of rough. 5i 10 yards long, but really pretty to watch. Impressed the cart-kid waiting to clean clubs for tips by the 18th green.
Finished on first hole with a terrible 2nd shot 5W, way right into crap on right side of cart path. Made what looked like a nice pitch from there, which I thought was going to be on and close, giving me a chance to save par. Unfortunately, it got stuck in the deep rough on the downhill side of a mogul protecting the green, leaving me with a downhill chip to a short-sided pin. Landed it on the edge of the rough, but it still rolled out and well past the pin. 2 putt double. Could have been a pretty good round--scorewise--if I save par there. When I walked over that mogul after the pitch, I really did expect to see my ball sitting on the green very close to the pin. Oh well.
